Hi, I’m Sarah Pettyfer

A professional genealogist and historian with a solicitor’s eye for evidence.

After a career in law, I turned my long-standing passion for archives and family history into professional work — completing a Diploma in Genealogy and specialising in the kinds of records many people find intimidating: legal, land, manorial, and court documents.

Why clients come to me

A legal-records focus: deeds, manorial court records, Chancery and other court material often hold the missing details.

  • Real archival practice: I love the deep work — the centuries-old records that bring ordinary lives into focus.
  • No “boring” ancestors: labourers, soldiers, tenants, lords of the manor — and the occasional colourful character — all have stories worth telling.

If you’ve hit a wall, want a property’s story uncovered, or you’re ready to expand into local history, I’d love to hear about your project.

Prefer to research yourself — but want a reliable guide? My writing is designed to help you navigate real record problems and make confident progress.
